Colored Rings

I use a variety of colored rings. They can make a piece feel playful or just simply zest it up. They are either anodized (which is, putting it simply, being zapped in a solution with a particular voltage for the desired color - awesome!) or they are enameled. (Anodized aluminum is a little different in that it is zapped first to prep surface and then dyed.) Anodized Aluminum [AA]: ~ 98% aluminum, ~ 2% magnesium. Anodized aluminum is probably the most "delicate" of the colored rings. It still holds up well with use, I would just recommend setting it on...

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver - how much more gorgeous can you get? It has a nice weight and beautiful sheen that makes it my favorite metal to work with. I swear it's like working with silk. Content: 92.5% silver, 7.5% copper Allergy: Sterling does contain copper, so if you have an allergy to copper I would avoid it. Because of the copper content, unfortunately for some people, it can also turn your skin green. If this happens, limit how often you wear it. Skin discoloration is completely harmless and not an allergic reaction. To clean: Mild soap and water works well, as...

(Bright) Aluminum

I realize aluminum doesn't sound like the sexiest of metals, but I truly believe it is underrated. The "bright" is what makes it different from a soda pop can in that it won't blacken skin - and it's shinier, as in, "bright". Aluminum is lightweight making it my favorite go-to for earrings, it doesn't tarnish, cleaning is simple, and it also helps to keep the costs down on some of the more complicated pieces I make. I love it. Content: ~ 93-95% aluminum, ~ 1% magnesium Allergy: Allergic reactions are rare To clean: Mild soap and water. That's it. Know...

Stainless Steel

I am a big sucker for stainless steel. It's tough, and I love the darker coloring of it. (And it feels like a little badass on my wrist.) The steel I buy is on the pricier side as it is saw-cut. This method of cutting creates a cleaner line for me to close the ring with...but it requires some saws...because it's a badass little metal. Content: ~ 69% iron, ~ 19% chromium, ~ 9% nickel Allergy: This one is tricky. It does contain nickel, however, for comparison, surgical steel contains anywhere from 8-12% nickel. If you have had an allergic...

Brass, Bronze, and Copper

I've lumped these together as they all mainly contain copper and have the same care recommendation. I love using these metals as they help add beautiful contrasts and variety to my work. Brass: 87% copper, 13% zinc Bronze: 92% or more copper, ~ 5% tin Copper: 99.99% copper Allergy: Something I want to clarify here is allergies to copper. If you break out into a rash or itchy skin or worse then you have an allergy to copper (most likely culprit) and should stay away from these and sterling silver. If you're one of the unlucky people whose skin turns...
